Proudly Pinoy: Discover the beauty of locally grown coffee with Bo’s Coffee

Nadie Esteban

Coffee has become such a staple in the Filipino diet that a lot of people refuse to do anything else or interact with other people until they’ve had a sip of the brewed treat – hot or iced.

In fact, coffee is so essential that most people don’t only drink it in the morning, they also enjoy it after lunch or after snacks, and hey, maybe a little early in the night after dinner. Despite it being a big part of their day, a lot of Filipinos don’t really know how coffee first started out in the Philippines.

The first coffee tree was introduced by a Spanish Franciscan monk in Lipa, Batangas in 1740. Coffee production quickly grew as it spread through different parts of Batangas like in Ibaan, Lemery, San Jose, Taal, and Tanauan.

Tons of household instant coffee names have began introducing themselves throughout the years and even a ton of coffee shops started popping up in local malls and cities.

Amidst the hype and fame of several international brands, Steve Benitez began operating a local coffee shop in Cebu named Bo’s Coffee. The company operates 100 branches around the company and 1 branch in Qatar.

For only 500 pesos, 2 people can enjoy their freshly brewed, high quality coffee and delicious cakes along with a calming ambiance: perfect for when you’re studying or working or even when you want to catch up with your friends.

Some of their best sellers include Cold White Brew, a concoction that has fruity notes in it and over time, the milk seeps into the coffee, creating a marble effect in your glass and Froccino Mocha, which is their own take on the classic ice blended coffee drink.

Of course, a coffee shop isn’t complete without your staple Latte and Americano. And if you aren’t looking for coffee, they also have Tropical Breeze Tea, which is also a crowd favorite.

One of Bo’s Coffee’s specialties is their Atok Ampucao or Philippine Coffee Origins. Ampucao coffee has medium body tastes with notes of berries, chocolates, and nuts, while Atok coffee has almost the same structure as Ampucao but has a very winey aftertaste.

If you’re in a hurry (as most of us are when we’re trying to get our coffee fix while going to work or finishing a deadline), Bo’s Coffee offers Advanced Ordering via Facebook Messenger also known as BOTTY.
