MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that it has mobilized its units in provinces affected by the magnitude 6.6 earthquake which hit parts of Mindanao Tuesday morning.

"The PNP urges the people in Mindanao to remain calm and composed in view of the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that jolted parts of regions 9, 10, 11, and 12," PNP spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac said in a statement.

"PNP OIC, PLtGen Archie Francisco Gamboa has directed all Directors of said Police Regional Offices to immediately mobilize their respective units and personnel to respond to calls for help, provide necessary assistance in coordination with their respective LGUs [local government units] and RDRRMCs [Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council], and prevent occurrence of crimes," Banac added.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolted North Cotabato and nearby provinces, resulting to suspension of classes.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) assured residents there is no tsunami threat following the temblor. /je
